UP Board Exams Duration and Time Slots
The UP Board has planned both Class 10 and Class 12 exams across two major time slots throughout the exam duration. Examinations will be organized every day in two shifts:
- Morning Shift: 8:30 AM to 11:45 AM
- Afternoon Shift: 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM
This gives students enough time gap between two different sessions. More importantly, this timetable provides students the opportunity to revise their next subject better, as many major subjects are not placed back-to-back.
Exams Have Proper Gaps Between Major Papers
For students, one of the biggest advantages this year is that major subjects are not scheduled continuously. In earlier years, many students felt that exams placed one after another made revision difficult. Keeping this in mind, UPMSP has decided that important subjects will have gap days so that students can utilize sufficient time for preparation.
For example:
- Class 10 Hindi exam is on 18 February
- English exam is on 23 February (gap in between)
- Science exam is on 25 February
- Mathematics exam is on 27 February
Similarly, in Class 12 major subjects also have proper break gaps:
- Inter Hindi on 18 February
- English on 20 February
- Biology & Mathematics on 23 February
- Chemistry on 25 February
- Physics on 27 February
These gaps will highly reduce stress levels and allow students to organize revision more smartly.
Examination Dates Compared With Last Year
Last year, the UP Board examinations started from 24 February and continued till 12 March. This means the 2026 board examinations are starting six days earlier this time – from 18 February. However, the final concluding date remains the same which is 12 March.
Another major difference this year is regarding the festival of Holi. In 2025, Holi was before the exam completion but in 2026, Holi will fall on 4 March 2026. Due to this, the board has not scheduled any paper between 1 March to 6 March 2026. This gap is helpful for students to enjoy festival time peacefully without examination stress. However, this also means that the exam duration in 2026 is slightly longer compared to last year.
Recent Past Comparison
- 3 years ago the UP Board started exams on 7 February.
- Last year, exams began on 24 February.
- Now in 2026, exams start on 18 February.
Clearly, exam date starting time has been gradually earlied again in the academic calendar pattern.
Number of Students Appearing in UP Board Exam 2026
UP Board remains the largest board examination in India in terms of student participation.
Class 10 (High School)
- Total Students: 27,50,945
- Boys: 14,38,682
- Girls: 13,12,263
Class 12 (Intermediate)
- Total Students: 24,79,352
- Boys: 13,03,012
- Girls: 11,76,340
This massive participation shows how crucial the board exams are for future academic and competitive planning of lakhs of candidates in Uttar Pradesh.
Holi Comes In Between Exams – But Major Papers End Before Festival
Because Holi falls on 4 March 2026, the Board has scheduled a complete gap of six days for students. This ensures there is no exam pressure during the major cultural festival period. Most major subjects for both Class 10 and Class 12 will already be completed before Holi.
After Holi, exams will continue for subjects like Commerce, Urdu, Painting, Music, Agriculture, etc. These subjects generally have lesser number of candidates enrolled compared to core subjects like Hindi, English, Science, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, etc.
